I'm Toque on the playa, Jonathan in the default world and several other nicknames evident from the Tribe profile. Originally from Toronto and more recently from Victoria BC, where I studied writing, I have recently relocated to the SF Bay Area (taking advantage of dual citizenship).

I can help hook people up with Canadian Burners, especially in Vancouver, Victoria, and Toronto, although the BMan site's regionals network contact list is probably just as useful.

Names K8 32, originally from Saturna/Vancouver and still live here. Lived in Calgary, Ojai and Scottsadale in my younger years. Working in the pulp and lumber trading sector and own a marketing company that is presently dormant but events planned in the very near future. Planning a European backpack trip in 2006 with my boyfriend as well as Burning Man 2005 and Mexico post BM (closer to x-mas).

I rock today. Super boring day but thankfully tribe is keeping me alive and I have Sherri (my coworked) convinced that I have SARS based on how loud I am coughing. Really Sherri, do you think I would come to the office with SARS? She gets really upset everytime I mention it. Lol... The sensisitve type.

Can't wait to get off work...ewww...I have dishes to do...then I have to make dinner...can't someone else look after me tonight?

hitching is reasonably problematic. the cops tend not to like it, i don't know if it's strictly illegal, just frowned upon, or depends county to county.

it's declined considerably in the states, at least on the east coast, in the past 10 years. i rarely if ever see someone on the side of the road but the west coast up through canada might be a little different.

you do hear stories about hitchhikers coming into trouble. of course, the news tends not to report "hitchhiker made it from florida to NYC without any problems, hassles, or run-ins with psychopaths."

if you do hitch, make sure you have nothing illegal on your person.

Hitching in the States (especially the Bay Area) used to be very common in the 60s and early 70s, but as stories of danger to or at the hands of hitchhikers became more visible, it dropped way off, practically to nothing. It's illegal to hitchhike on the freeways, and I might see one hitchhiker in a year, if that, on surface streets. It would seem to me that it would be a hard way to get anywhere since so few people are likely to stop.
